Danger of the dogmatic leaders

The other day I was in a chain of local pharmacies and the person before me was the body by the fact that Michigan has made a tax on soda (“pop” for those of you in other domains) conversation. The dialogue between the customer and the cashier how:

Customer: “So my son says they will soon begin the soda tax. I think we get enough in taxes. “

Cashier: “Yeah, it will be a socialist country before long. We make the Russian Communists.”

In passing listen, I must say I was very confused. What are the sales have to pay too much to do with being socialist? And how does it work like a socialist state too much in taxes has nothing to do with the Russian communists? And as the conversation because Pepsi begins to be taxed in Michigan? Moreover, the conversation ended with two of them made a sign to understand each other, apparently so it was me who missed the point.

Then I thought about it later fell to me that this kind of thinking, and this conversation happens all the time because of our tendency dogmatic in our thinking that it does not matter what is said, we have our own. If the client had said: “They will be resurfaced in the street,” it is equally likely that the cashier had the socialist / communist question. By definition, people are dogmatic beliefs that are not disputed and require no specific basis in fact. I think, because I think and if you do not think you’re wrong.

Many leaders see that we are in the leading media dogmatic. Your beliefs are the only facts they need. If you follow them, follow them without question because their beliefs are the truth. Often, they present evidence, but it should not be strong because it is just a facade to the real problem is that they are right and everyone else is wrong.

This behavior leads to many problems. On the one hand, are followers of dogmatic leaders that there was no idea why they believe what they believe … only that their leader is. This creates a situation in which the follower to hear or discredit dysfunctional to see proof of the leader, but cannot accept as evidence, because … well … because their loyalty is first and foremost on the belief of leaders, not on evidence. So, if an auditor starts on the ethics of decisions or the results of the question now flowing, because the decisions are bad start, leaders or supporters challenge the practice because they are “correct.”

It is also impossible to compromise with leaders dogmatic, because there is no compromise. Many businesses and politicians have taken an uncompromising position (on the right and left), based on ideology and not the needs or desires of the people, they are constituents, employees or shareholders. Dogmatic leaders tell people what they think and then the survey, using the results as proof that they are correct. This approach creates a circular no-lose situation leading dogmatic.

Truly effective leaders must understand that the strength of their convictions about what they believe to be based on real time. Executives on the welfare of their members, the time for open discussion and review of care options. Even if they are sure they are always on the lookout for signs that need their direction or adaptation of opinion. These leaders do not measure the intelligence of others by how others near agreement with them, but others ready to be innovative and responsibility is the results. You start with the problem and work your way to a solution, if not around.
